The Shift - a movie about Wayne Dyer

“The Shift” is a film directed by Michael A. Goorjian. The main character is Wayne Dyer – author of the famous self-help book “Love yourself”.

In The Shift, Dr. Wayne Dyer as a guide and spiritual master for different types of people he works with. With the help of conversations and experiences, he tries to make them realize that life is not a river that flows in a certain stream. Instead, he tries to help each person find their own path and discover their “inner self.”

He tries to help them see that everything has its own hidden meaning if we only learn to listen, if we dare to walk the path that our heart chooses. We can choose to make this “shift” if we strongly feel that we are not really where we should be in life. During the film, three different stories are told, where the characters get lost and feel a great emptiness in their lives.

In the first case in The Shift, a mother gives so much of herself to her family that she forgets to live her own life. Over the years, she gave everything for her family’s well-being, but left her dreams and hobbies behind. She slowly realizes this, and it makes her start taking her life back.

Each person deserves their own personal space where you can grow, chase your dreams and do what you like best. Dedicating time to oneself is vital. Anyone who does not do so, whether it is due to overwork or because they are busy taking care of others, will over time feel a great emptiness or emptiness in their life.

In the second case in The Shift, we meet a well-adjusted married couple with a high standard of living. These spouses seem to have everything, but they soon realize that wealth is not the same as true happiness. We are not defined by what we have or possess. They learn to value the little things. They discover that within simplicity and the small details of life, there is the greatest wealth of all.

In the third case, we meet an ambitious film director. He forgot to live in the present and focused only on his job. His future and the coming successes were what his whole life revolved around. This desire to live only for their work and job ultimately causes the “here and now” to pass you by.

  • Live consciously: Enjoy the present in its entirety. Be here in this moment and do not let the mind wander anywhere else.
  • Release your ego: Remember that you are not defined by your work or your riches. When you live from the inside, from the spiritual being who only focuses on how you are as a person, without any labels or belongings, that is when your well-being begins to flow from within you.
  • Push perfection aside: Be aware that you do not have to be perfect. Human beings are not perfect and you do not have to be perfect to be happy.
  • Be aware that you are not defined by your reputation: If we live our lives according to what others think of us, we will lose our freedom. Everyone is free to have their opinions, but the thoughts of others should not affect our decisions, our actions or our way of life. Reputation is something invisible that others create about you. This is something we should not attach too much importance to. What really matters is not what happens on the outside, because that’s not where you live. What matters most is what happens inside you.
  • Listen to yourself, without judging: When we make decisions, our ego tends to interfere. Our inner perfectionist and judgmental side comes to light. They remind us that “normal” is to do just like everyone else. When we activate the side of us that is free from disturbances, everything flows more naturally and is filled with positive emotions. This is where our true dreams and desires are.

This movie makes us ask ourselves if we really are where we would like to be in our lives. If we really live or if we let our dreams and our happiness pass by. We are the creators of our own lives. Everything has its own hidden meaning if we do something about it and guide our lives in a specific and personal way.

Do you live your life as you would like or do you allow yourself to be swept away by the current or society?
