Beautiful Persian Proverbs About Love

Beautiful Persian proverbs about love

Some Persian proverbs about love go back a thousand years. This is hardly surprising, since Persian culture consists of many different cultures. Each of these cultures offered their own wisdom and together they formed a magnificent and fascinating society.

Although Persian proverbs are part of popular culture, they have an undeniable philosophical spirit. The flourishing of the Persian Empire was as spectacular as its fall, and this certainly caused much reflection.

There are not many Persian proverbs about love. This culture focused more on existential topics. But it also houses some beautiful affirmations of this complex feeling. Here are five of them.

One of the most famous Persian proverbs says:  “The thirst of the heart is not quenched with a drop of water.” This means that when someone longs to love and be loved, a small gesture of affection or a fleeting romance is not enough.

People who lack affection love in a certain way. Usually they do it in a compulsive way. They feel such emptiness that they exaggerate their emotions. A lonely and “thirsty” heart needs more than a drop of water. But at the same time, one must be careful not to drink too much.

Another Persian proverb warns us of something that often happens in relationships. Sometimes both parties try to steer the ship in the quest to be more democratic. However, this may be incorrect. The saying goes:  “Two captains make the ship sink.” This means that if there are two leaders acting at the same time, it can end in disaster.

Instead of both trying to sit at the helm at the same time, you should take turns with your partner. When two people with different ideas try to determine the direction at the same time, the effects become counterproductive. Instead, try to “divide and conquer” or to replace each other as leaders.

A beautiful Persian proverb reads:  “Do not let your memories outweigh your hopes.” The past is often very present in love, for better or for worse. Sometimes we can not forget past lovers. We stick fast to mistakes and can not free ourselves from our pain.

A more sensible choice, both in terms of love and life as a whole, is not to get caught up in the past. Let everything flow and do not cling to situations or emotions. Let life have its way. If you want to move forward, do not commit to a moment that is already over.

We must free ourselves from the past

The word kindness  has its roots in the word love . Being kind is the same as being deserving of love. We also use this adjective to describe a person who is nice, candid and respectful towards others. This represents the very essence of kindness.

Another of these Persian proverbs reads:  “With a gentle tongue and kindness you can draw an elephant with a hair”. In other words, good behavior is more powerful than aggression or rudeness. This is something that everyone who loves should keep in mind.

The lack of pearls does not mean that they are missing

We all go through phases in our lives when everything, including love, seems to thrive. We also go through periods in our lives that are just the opposite. Nothing grows, nothing flourishes. Sometimes these moments make us lose hope and change the way we look at the world.

One of these Persian proverbs tells us how important it is not to let this happen. It reads:  “If you dive into the sea and do not find any pearls, do not conclude that the sea lacks pearls”. If you are looking for pearls without finding any, it is sometimes because you are simply looking in the wrong place.

All these beautiful Persian sayings about love remind us that love is a very complex emotion. Depending on your perspective, it can bring you happiness or suffering. You have the ability to discover what is the best way to experience love, to nurture it and to make it a positive force in your life.
