A growth journey through your memories

Emotional immaturity is synonymous with a lack of emotional development. To become emotionally mature, you have to digest things, develop and grow. In other words, the emotional development requires a growth journey through your memories, which is characterized by the relationship between your feelings and the lessons you learned when you overcame difficulties.

Another way to stimulate this emotional maturity is with your memories. Today we will talk about this possible. As Enrique Rojas pointed out in his article “The Immature Personality”, emotional immaturity is characterized by emotional instability, lack of self-awareness and a lack of responsibility.

You may be asking yourself how you can begin to control your emotions. Today we will share a way to start this journey of discovery.

Your growth journey through your memories

To start with this growth journey, we recommend meditation. Close your eyes and focus on your breathing.

Then visualize walking along a path. It does not matter if it is filled with flowers, leaves or sand. The important thing is that you take in everything around you. Feel how the sun warms your body.

At the end of the path you can see a cottage with a door. You open the door and see some steps. You then start walking up them and discover three floors.

The room with the bad memories

On the first floor you see a room and there is an elderly person next to this room. The person smiles at you and says that you have to choose one of the bad memories that you find inside the room.

Most of these bad memories have been with you for a long time. You have carried them with you, but you have not stopped analyzing them. Choose a bad memory, and then go back to the door.

The room with the positive memories

Continue along the stairs to the second floor. You open the door and find the room with the positive memories.

Go through the door and choose the memory that you like best and that has the most meaning for you. Then leave the room and continue along the stairs.

Your refuge: the last stop on your growth journey

On the last floor you will find a room. When you enter, you will find a fantastic place. This place is different for each person. It is a place where you feel comfortable and where you experience peace.

Sit in the middle of the room and pick up the memories you have collected from your bag. Then analyze them until you realize that both your good and bad memories are a part of you. After you have taken one last look at this beautiful place, you go back to where you came from. On your way, you leave every memory where you found it. Go back to the beginning of the path. Finally open your eyes.

Accept your past through your memories

This growth journey will help you accept what has happened to you to allow you to better control your emotions. If you are already meditating, this journey will be much easier for you. Otherwise, you will have some difficulty relaxing and letting go.

If you need help, you should ask for it. Psychologists can help you with this exercise and others can help you develop and respond to what still hurts you today.
