What Happened To Baby Jane? Then Hatred Becomes Art

What happened to baby Jane? Then hatred becomes art

Bette Davis and Joan Crawford: two famous actresses, a lot of talent and a lifelong controversy. But why did they hate each other so much if they were still so alike? They both had bad relationships with their daughters, their romantic relationships fell apart and they both drank too often. There is no doubt that this is one of the biggest controversies in Hollywood history. It has also given us the movie: What Happened to Baby Jane?

In fact, the lives of these actresses seemed like a movie in themselves. Baby Jane was a huge success, and people still see it as a classic. Today, the film has all its old glory due to the series: FEUD: Bette and Joan. The show recreates the controversy between the two actresses as well as the problems they had when the film was shot.

In fact, young people do not like watching movies in black and white. It almost seems like they are allergic to it. As if it’s too hard to watch movies in black and white. But some of the magic from these movies comes from the very fact that they are not in color.

Hatred and fear

When we think of horror movies, we immediately think of demons, special effects and haunted houses. It all started in the 70’s with movies like The Exorcist.

Until then, Alfred Hitchcock was the film’s master. Most of his films were in black and white and people had become accustomed to a different kind of horror. It was more subtle, more psychological and almost everything with it was due to the actors, the music and that they gave hidden clues.

Is baby Jane hate or fear?

All this has now changed and most of us had not said that Baby Jane was a horror movie. But that’s how people characterized it when it first came out. And the fact is that Bete Davids does not need any special effects to torture you with his eyes, or to make you feel anxious when Blanche (Joan Crawford) desperately tries to call for help.

Is there anything as abominable as hatred? If someone hates you, the person can do anything, and especially when the person is losing their mind as in the movie. The fear and anxiety in the film is based on hatred and bitterness. When you hate someone, you can become irrational. You will not care about the damage you cause and you will probably not think about the consequences.

Baby Jane: two sisters and two actresses

Baby Jane tells the story of two sisters who have seen their best time. People have forgotten them. One of them, Blanche, is in a wheelchair and is completely dependent on his younger sister Jane (Bette Davis). Not so long ago, Jane lost her temper from all the guilt she felt when her sister was paralyzed. She spends long moments reliving her glory days in her head, and feels that she can return to being a little girl again. That she can sing and dance with her father while the audience loves her.

The hatred between them is very clear in the film; almost like in real life. In Baby Jane, Jane is an egocentric actress who is spoiled by her father who treats everyone around him badly, including his own family. Then we have the older sister Blanche. She barely speaks and feels left out. But the film shows how Jane’s treatment makes Blanche a strong woman who succeeds in outshining her sister. It ends with her becoming a real movie star.

Jane, on the other hand, is forgotten by everyone. She has no talent and she hates her sister because she gets all the attention. Blanche and Jane are two eternal rivals. Even when Blanche seems to show some concern for his sister, the show shows that it was not always this way. The film gives you extremely unpleasant scenes, such as the food that Jane prepares to give to her sister. Or the song “I’ve written a letter to daddy”.

Feelings of hatred

You can feel the excitement and hatred through the screen. Perhaps the reason for this is that Jane and Blanche’s story is very reminiscent of Bette and Joan. Hatred becomes an art that is very worth seeing. And it’s a hatred that was completely true. There has been a lot of talk about what happened during the filming of Baby Jane.

For example, we have the case of the Coca Cola machine that Davis used to compete with Crawford’s Pepsi. Then we have another case where Davis really beat Crawford during a scene. Once upon a time, Crawford even chose to put weights in her clothes when they would record a scene where Davis had to drag her with him.

The rivalry was so intense that Crawford secured Anne Bancroft an Oscar for Best Actress. Davis had been nominated for the same award and Crawford did so to ruin her time in the spotlight.

FEUD: Bette and Joan

Their rivalry was recently recorded on TV in the series FEUD: Bette and Joan. The roles were played by Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lane. The series was directed by Ryan Murphy. It takes place during the filming of the movie and shows you a different perspective: the perspective of the media and the Hollywood industry. It was an industry where women barely had any opportunities, and especially not as they got older.

In the series, you will see how the press encouraged rivalry. It was more interesting to hear about their insults than to see how good actresses they were. If the circumstances had been different, they might not have become such bitter rivals. In fact, Hollywood wanted them to be rivals, as this was good marketing for the film that did not have such a high budget or such a very famous director (Bob Aldrich).

The FEUD series has captured some of the most interesting moments of these stars’ lives. And they have brought Baby Jane back into the spotlight. However, it also has some interesting actresses, such as Sarandon and Lange. They’re getting older, just like the actresses they play. But that does not stop them from showing that they still have great talent.

The interesting thing about Baby Jane

Baby Jane tried to reintroduce two actresses who did not pose any interest among the younger audience. That’s why Baby Jane was a risky idea, and why they had to market it with something extra. In this case, it was the rivalry between the two stars.

Hatred can make you an irrational person, just like love. Both of these feelings can change your perception. You see what you want to see instead of what you really have in front of you. Hollywood did not care about happiness or morality. The important thing was to sell a product.
